Semtech and Oxit Collaborate to Simplify IoT Device Connectivity with Seamless Integration to AWS IoT Core

San Francisco, CA and New York, NY — In a groundbreaking move, Semtech Corporation (Nasdaq: SMTC), a global leader in high-performance semiconductors, IoT systems, and cloud connectivity services, has joined forces with Oxit, a leading innovator in Internet of Things (IoT) services. Their strategic collaboration, announced on August 30, 2023, aims to revolutionize IoT device connectivity by introducing the OxTech Multi-Connectivity Module, a breakthrough technology that promises to simplify and enhance IoT device connections.

This pioneering partnership empowers device manufacturers to create a single device equipped with the OxTech Multi-Connectivity Module, capable of seamlessly connecting to both AWS IoT Core for Amazon Sidewalk and AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN networks in the United States, as well as LoRaWAN networks worldwide. This unified solution provides users with unprecedented flexibility in selecting the optimal network based on coverage, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of applications, from asset tracking to smart cities.

Tom Mueller, EVP and GM of IoT System Products Group at Semtech Corporation, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, emphasizing the role of Semtech’s renowned LoRa technology as the foundation of the OxTech Multi-Connectivity Module. This technology, known for its long-range capabilities and energy efficiency, opens up countless possibilities in IoT applications, from smart homes to smart cities and beyond.

Amazon Sidewalk, with its impressive coverage of over 90% of the U.S. population, serves as a long-range, low-bandwidth community network designed to securely and seamlessly connect a multitude of IoT devices. Leveraging Sidewalk Bridges, including select Echo and Ring devices, Amazon Sidewalk provides cloud connectivity for IoT devices. AWS IoT Core for Sidewalk acts as the cloud endpoint for third-party devices connecting to the Amazon Sidewalk network.

Oxit’s OxTech Multi-Connectivity Module, based on Semtech’s SX1262 and SiLabs EFR32MG24 chipsets and complemented by the Oxit SW stack for both Sidewalk and LoRaWAN, streamlines the process of connecting devices to AWS IoT Core for Amazon Sidewalk or LoRaWAN. These integration methods are independent, providing customers with the option to use them separately or in combination, simplifying the development of IoT solutions using a single hardware device for both AWS IoT Core for Amazon Sidewalk and AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN networks.

Josh Cox, CEO of Oxit, emphasized the module’s versatility in supporting multiple use cases with minimal external components, making it the ideal choice for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) looking to build a single hardware device compatible with Amazon Sidewalk and AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN.

Yasser Alsaied, VP of IoT at AWS, highlighted the convenience of AWS IoT Core, offering a unified endpoint for both Amazon Sidewalk and LoRaWAN networks. Customers using the OxTech Multi-Connectivity Module can effortlessly onboard their devices into AWS IoT Core using either Amazon Sidewalk or LoRaWAN, without requiring changes to their applications, simplifying the integration of multiple networks.

Jim Stratigos, CTO of Cognosos, Inc., expressed satisfaction with the OxTech Multi-Connectivity Module, citing its versatility and flexibility to support various LPWA protocols.

Ron Lazarus, COO of New Cosmos USA, Inc., praised the module for its role in delivering advanced gas leak detection technology based on the OxTech Multi-Connectivity Module and Semtech’s LoRa chipset, ensuring the safety of homes and properties.

Larry Fox, CEO of ZFLO Technologies, spoke highly of the OxTech Multi-Connectivity Module, stating that it provided the most robust solution for building their debut product, the ZakTrak. He also noted Oxit’s deep understanding of Amazon Sidewalk technology, which is vital for their future product development.
